Stylish & Distinctive Alternatives to traditional asphalt paving would be the following examples.
Oil and stone is a process where liquid asphalt (oil) is applied over a 4-5” base of 1 ¼” stone. A layer of ¾” stone is then added, rolled and compacted. A second application of liquid asphalt is applied and then a top layer of 3/8” colored stone, of the homeowner’s choice, is then added to this solution and compacted. The result is a very durable and long lasting surface for your driveway. Unlike asphalt paving, it repairs more easily and will not show signs of patching. It provides superior traction in the winter months and can be done in a variety of colors.
Chip Sealing is similar process that can be done to an existing un-sealed asphalt driveway or a new driveway. A layer of liquid asphalt is applied and then a layer 3/8” colored stone is added, rolled and compacted. (If your driveway has been previously sealed, the sealer must be worn off in order for the oil to adhere to the stone)
Concrete Pavers come in a variety of shapes, colors and finishes. There are multiple layout patterns available to compliment your home and landscape. Pavers are set in sand or stone dust rather than mortar. Setting pavers in this method allows for some mobility and cracking seldom occurs. Concrete pavers can easily be removed and replaced. Pavers can designed to cover the whole driveway or used as a decorative apron or edging to asphalt paving, oil & stone, or chip seal driveways.
